John Stockton broke the previous record for most career games played for a single team during his 1,271st game for the Utah Jazz in 2000. Stockton spent his entire 19-year NBA career as point guard for the Utah Jazz. Between 1984 and 2003, the Jazz made the playoffs each year. Stockton was one of just 74 college seniors coach Bob Knight invited to try out for the 1984 Olympic team. He didn’t make the cut, Stockton was the first round draft pick for the Jazz that same year. He became the starting point guard during the 1986-87 season and was known for his astounding assist record. He was also selected to play on the 1992 united States Olympic Men’s Basketball, the “Dream Team,” and was inducted into the hall of fame for his individual performance in 2009 and as part of the Dream Team in 2010. At the time of his retirement in 2003, Stockton had 15,806 assists, which is still an NBA record, and averaged a career high of 14.5 assists-per-game in 1990.
