On May 5th, 1978, Pete Rose of the Cincinnati Reds singled to left field for the 3,000th hit of his career. The game was against the Montreal Expos. Rose would retire in 1986 with 4,256 hits, the most in Major League history. To this date, the 3,000 hit club is one of the most exclusive in sports, only having 32 members.
