Today in Sports History: December 25

On December 25, 2008, Shaquille O’Neal became only the second player in NBA history to miss 5,000 free throws in his career, joining fellow legendary center Wilt Chamberlain. Shaq and Chamberlain are often mentioned in the conversation of worst free throw shooters of all time, despite also being two of the greatest players of all time. Shaq had a slightly better free throw percentage, with 52.7% over his career compared to Chamberlain’s 51.1%, but Chamberlain showed potential during games such as his 100-point game, when he shot 28-32 on his free throw attempts. No matter what people say about their free throw shooting, these are perhaps the two greatest centers of all time.
