Today in Sports History: December 21

By Jonah Sharf

On December 21, 2009, the New Jersey Devils’ goalkeeper Martin Brodeur broke Terry Sawchuck’s 40-year record with his 104th career shutout. He would finish his career with 125 shutouts, 23 more than second place Sawchuck. Brodeur set many records during his outstanding career, including most regular season wins, most regular season shutouts, most games played by a goaltender, most career saves, most 30 and 40-win seasons, most postseason shutouts, and many more. Needless to say, Brodeur is one of the best goalkeepers in NHL history.
