In 1995, pitched Dennis Eckersley became the sixth pitched in league history to tall 300 saves during a 5-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles. Eckersley is remembered as an excellent closer and was one of the first pitchers to have both a 20-win season and a 50-save season in a career. At the time of his retirement in 1998, Eckersley had appeared in more games than any pitcher in league history. His 1,071 appearances place him in fifth place on the current list. Eckersley was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004 and currently works as a color commentator for New England Sports Network.
