In 2003, Annika Sorenstam became the first woman since Babe Zaharias to compete in a PGA tournament. Zaharias competed in the men’s Los Angeles Open in 1938 and helped to found the LPGA in 1949. She was also the first woman to take the cut at a 36-hole men’s tour.

Sorenstam became a popular female figure in golf and fans were so enamored that broadcast channel CNBC ran a live crawl that updated her score. Sorenstam shot a 1-over-par 71 in the first round but shot 74 the second day and was disqualified from the tour. She is considered one of the greatest LPGA players and has 72 tournaments under her belt.
