In 2019, Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland won the PGA Players Championship at the TPC at Sawgrass. The one-stroke victory saw McIlroy collect the biggest cheque in golf history ($2.25m). McIlroy who turned pro at age 18 was also the youngest player ever to reach $10 million in career earnings (age 22). A former world number one in the Official World Golf Ranking, McIlroy has won 18 PGA Tour events and 35 victories in total. McIlroy has also won four major championships including The Open Championship, U.S. Open, and PGA Championship twice. McIlroy has yet to win golf’s most coveted prize, the green jacket, but he came close with a 4th place finish at the 2015 Masters Tournament. Throughout his career, McIlroy has spent over 100 weeks as world no.1 and made over $54 million in tour wins.
