On this day in 1999, Los Angeles Clippers broadcaster Ralph Lawler worked his 1,500th Clippers game in a 103-74 loss to theAtlanta Hawks. Through the good and the bad, Lawler’s voice was a consistent presence for 41 years. He became the Clippers broadcaster in 1978, six years before the team moved from San Diego to Los Angeles. Beloved by fans for his enthusiasm, phrases like “The lob! The Jam!” have become synonymous with alley-oop dunks. Lawler called over 3,000 Clippers games, 1,600 consecutive games, and only missed three games over his entire career. Lawler retired following the 2018-19 NBA season and was named the 2019 winner of the Curt Gowdy Media Award for electronic media by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
