In 1986, Manute Bol of the Washington Bullets blocked 15 shots in a 111-103 win over Atlanta. His total is tied for second with Orlando’s Shaquille O’Neal who had 15 rejections at New Jersey on November 20, 1993. First place still belongs to the NBA record of 17 blocks by the Lakers’ Elmore Smith on October 28, 1973. Bol, the second tallest NBA player ever was drafted no. 31 in the 1985 NBA draft. Bol played 10 seasons in the NBA and averaged 5.0 blocks per game his rookie year. Bol’s 397 blocks set the NBA rookie record and remains the second-highest single-season total in league history, behind Mark Eaton’s 456 in 1984–85. Bol received NBA All-Defensive Second Team honors in 1986 and was a 2x NBA blocks leader (1986, 1989). Bol’s son Bol Bol currently plays for the Denver Nuggets.
