On this day in 1968, Bobby Orr scored his first career hat trick leading the Boston Bruins to a 10-5 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. Orr also had two assists and his brilliant performance saw him receive an 80-second standing ovation and more than 50 hats were tossed onto the ice. Considered to be one of the greatest hockey players of all time, Orr played in the NHL for 12 seasons and helped the Boston Bruins win two Stanley cups in 1970 and 1972. In the 1970 playoffs, Orr scored nine goals and eleven assists. The winning Stanley Cup goal made by Orr, came off a give-and-go pass with teammate Derek Sanderson at the 40-second mark of the first overtime period in the fourth game. In 1972, Orr had 24 points and 19 assists in the playoffs. He scored the championship goal against the New York Rangers and received his second Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. Orr was an 8x NHL All-Star and was inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 1979.
