On this day in 2008, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt set a new world record of 9.69 seconds when he won the coveted 100m gold medal at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics. Soon after, at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, Bolt managed to once again break his own 100m world record by clocking a 9.58. Recognized as the fastest man in recorded human history, Bolt holds eight Olympic gold medals. Bolt is the only sprinter to win Olympic 100m and 200m titles at three consecutive Olympics (2008, 2012 and 2016). He also won two 4 × 100 relay gold medals in the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.
