On this day in 2016, Michael Phelps raced for the last time. He finished his career the only way he knew how to, and that was on top. A final gold medal in the 4×100 medley relay, was the cherry on top to an unparalleled career. Over the span of four Olympics, Phelps collected 28 Olympic medals, 23 gold. Phelps was more than dominant, he was unbeatable, he demonstrated perfection in 2008 when he won gold in all 8 of his races. With his legacy solidified long before the Rio Olympics when he became the most decorated Olympian of all time.
