On August 21, 2016, the US Men’s Basketball team defeated Serbia to win the gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics. The team was led by Kevin Durant, who scored 30 points on 10/19 shooting, and Demarcus Cousins, who scored 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in just 17 minutes. Among the current NBA players on Serbia’s team were Milos Teodosic, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Nikola Jokic. Despite the presence of several NBA players, the USA defeated Serbia handily, 96-66. The US team rolled through the competition mostly, with its most serious threat in the knockout stage coming against the ever-dangerous Spain in the semifinals. Led by Nikola Mirotic, Ricky Rubio, and Pau Gasol, Spain took the Bronze medal after narrowly losing to the United States by six points.
