In 1987, Joe Montana of the San Francisco 49ers completed a then NFL record 22 consecutive passes. The legendary quarterback played 16 seasons in the NFL and led the 49ers to four Super Bowl victories. Montana’s first championship win was Super Bowl XVI in 1981. The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 26-21. Montana completed 14 of 22 passes for 157 yards with one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown. In 1989, Montana made history in Super Bowl XXIV becoming the first player ever to win Super Bowl MVP honors three times. In the victory, the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Denver Broncos 55–10. Montana recorded five throwing touchdowns for a total of 297 passing yards. Montana, a 2x NFL MVP, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000 and his no.16 was retired by the San Francisco 49ers.
