Today in Sports History: September 9

On this day in 1987, MLB pitcher Nolan Ryan struck out his 4,500th batter. Currently, he is still the MLB record holder for strikeouts with 5,714. The legendary pitcher was known for his fastball, and regularly threw pitches that clocked over 100mph. Ryan led a very successful career and helped the New York Mets win the 1969 World Series. In his 27 year career Nolan was a 11x Strikeout Leader, 8x All-Star, and threw a record seven no-hitters. Ryan was inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999 as a first ballot.
