Today in Sports History: August 4

By Brandon Zhu

On this day in 2007, N.Y. Yankees legend Alex Rodriguez blasted a three run home run against Kyle Davies of the Kansas City Royals as the landmark 500th homer of his career. Fellow Yankees legend Derek Jeter and Bobby Abreu both scored on the blast. Rodriquez became only the 22nd member, and the youngest player in major league history to reach the prestigious 500 home run club. Rodriquez would go on to solidify his legacy by winning the 2009 World Series, and being named the Babe Ruth Award winner as the 2009 postseason MVP. A 5x AL home run leader, Rodriguez sits at number four on the all time MLB home run list with 696 dingers.
