In 1982, 75-year-old Luke Appling hit a home run during the Cracker Jack Old Timers game. The game was held at RFK football Stadium in Washington , D.C. where the left-field fence was shorter than in MLB stadiums. Appling’s homer traveled only 265 feet but was still an impressive feat for the Old Timers’ most senior player. Appling made his pro debut in 1930 as shortstop for the Chicago White Sox. He was made seven All-Star teams and 2,749 career hits.
