In 1999, the San Antonio Spurs became the first former ABA team to capture the NBA championship. The Spurs defeated the New York Knicks in five games thanks to Avery Johnson’s stellar shot with 47 seconds left in the game. Tim Duncan scored 27.4 points and 14 rebounds through the series and won Finals MVP. Duncan was part of the Spurs’ power duo, known as the “Twin Towers” with David Robinson. Both Robinson and Duncan played their entire careers with the Spurs and are largely credited for developing a winning culture around the organization alongside coach Gregg Popovich.
