The Boston Celtics set a season record for the most home court wins and the highest winning percentage when they closed the 1985-86 season with a win over the New Jersey Nets. The Celtics ended the season with a 40-1 record and .976 winning percentage. The team beat its own record when they recorded 68 wins in the 1972-73 season. It would take almost 20 years for the San Antonio Spurs to match the Celtics’s home game record.

In 1986, the Celtics captured their 16th NBA championship in 22 years when they defeated the Houston Rockets. The tea ended with a total of 82 regular and postseason victories, a record which stood until the Chicago Bulls tallied 88 victories in the 205-16 season.
