In 2001, the Philadelphia 76ers retired Charles Barkley’s no. 34 jersey. He was the seventh player in team history to have his number retired by the team. Barkley played for the 76ers from 1984 to 1992. Barkley was known for his aggressive style of play, impressive rebounding skills (12.9 rebounds per game average), and agility. Barkley was selected to the All-NBA First Team five times, the All-NBA Second Team five times, and once to the All-NBA Third Team. He also competed on the “Dream Team” 1992 Olympics Men’s Basketball team where Barkley had a 71.1% field goal percentage and set the record for the highest three-point field goal percentage with 87.5% and added 4.1 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game. Barkley was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006 for his individual accomplishments and as a member of the “Dream Team” in 2010. In 1999, Charles Barkley’s NBA career ended on the basketball court. The Houston Rockets’ forward tore his left quadricep tendon while attempting to block a shot by Tyrone Hill, of the Philadelphia Sixers.
