After besting Evan Holyfield during a highly anticipated 1999 championship fight, Lennox Lewis became the first British heavyweight boxing championing a century. Holyfield and Lewis’ last fight ended in a controversial draw but in 1999, Lewis emerged as a the clear winner. Nicknamed The Lion, Lewis won the undisputed WBC Heavyweight Champion in 1993 and was known for his calculated fighting style and grace. He also won gold in the 1988 Seoul Olympics, bringing home Canada’s first gold medal for Super Heavyweight boxing. One of the highlights of his career came in 2002 when he defeated Mike Tyson during one of the most viewed pay-per-view professional boxing matches. Lewis retired from professional boxing in 2004.
