Today in Sports History: April 11

By Jonah Sharf

On April 11, 2004, “Lefty” Phil Mickelson won the first major championship of his career by winning the Masters at Augusta. Mickelson had been a pro for nearly 12 years at that point without a major, which may come as a shock to any golf fans today. Since then, he has won four more majors and a total of 44 PGA Tour events, which is good for 9th most all-time. Now 48 and still competing, Mickelson is one of just five golfers to have won the Masters three or more times.
