On February 26, 1996, John Stockton of the Utah Jazz recorded his 11,000th NBA assist, becoming the first player in NBA history to record 11,000 assists, a club only fellow legendary point guard Jason Kidd joined. Stockton would finish his 19-year career (all with the Jazz) with an unprecedented 15,806 assists, which is by far the most assists in NBA history. The next closest is Kidd, with 12,091. Stockton was one of the greatest passers in the history of the game, and is one of the greatest pure point guards as well. In addition to the assist record, Stockton holds the record for most steals in an NBA career, with 3,265 to the second place Kidd’s 2,684.
