Today in Sports History: February 15

By Jonah Sharf

On February 15, 2009, the West beat the East 146-119 in the All-Star Game in Phoenix, Arizona, and former teammates Shaq and Kobe were named co-MVPs of the game. After the East took an early 20-10 lead in the game, West head coach Phil Jackson put Shaq in the game, marking the first time Kobe and Shaq took the floor together on the same team since the 2004 NBA Finals and their infamous “break-up.” They looked like they had never had any conflict, and made an early and impactful mark, going on a 19-point unanswered scoring run and never looking back. Shaq finished with 17 points and 5 rebounds on 8-of-9 shooting, while Kobe poured in 27 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals.
