Today in Sports History: January 31

By Jonah Sharf

On January 31, 2018, James Harden became the first player in NBA history to record a 60-point triple double, racking up 60 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists. This was Harden’s career high at the time, and broke the 40-year old Houston Rockets franchise record for most points in a game (he broke it again this season with a recent 61 point game). This was the ninth 50-point game of Harden’s career, a total he has added to several times on his recent stretch. Harden won the NBA MVP award last year, and with his incredible average of 36.3 points to go along with 8.2 assists per game, he looks like he could be on his way to another.
