Today in Sports History: September 7

On September 7, 1979, the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network, known primarily as ESPN today, debuted with its first airing of SportsCenter. Since then, ESPN has become known as one of the most successful sports channels, websites, and magazines, and SportsCenter has been its flagship program since the beginning. It has also been based out of Bristol, Connecticut since its first airing, and while they have a few offices outside of Connecticut, its main campus and home is still considered Bristol. Besides being such a successful venture, ESPN has hosted Legends of Sports’ own Andrew D. Bernstein on its shows several times.
