In 2001, the Los Angeles Lakers had a historic playoff run and secured the title in just 5 games. The Lakers set league records with their 15-1 record and .937 winning percentage. The Lakers’ only defeat was a Game 1 overtime loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. The Lakers’ record would stand until the Golden State Warriors went 16-1 in the 2017 playoffs. Additionally, Shaquille O’Neal was voted Finals MVP and become one of just three players to win the award two years in a row, joining Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon.
