In 2002, Gary Payton of the Seattle SuperSonics became the second player in league history to make the NBA All-Defensive First Team nine times. He is tied with Michael Jordan, who was named to the team, nine times during his Chicago Bulls career. Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett also hold the same record. Payton is known for his defense skill which earned him the nickname “The Glove” during the 1993 Western Conference Finals. He was considered the “NBA’s reigning high scorer among point guards” during his playing career.
