On this day in 2011, Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo dished out 23 assists in a 105-103 win over the San Antonio Spurs. Rondo was the 21st pick in the 2006 NBA draft, he is currently ranked no.15 on the NBA All-Time Assists Leaders list with 7,215. Going into his 14th NBA season, Rondo has proven himself as an elite point guard. He helped the Boston Celtics defeat the Los Angeles Lakers 4-2 in the 2008 NBA Finals. In Game 2, Rondo recorded a then career-high 16 assists. In Game 6, Rondo recorded 6 steals to help the Celtics close out the series. In 2020, Rondo became the second player in NBA history, after Clyde Lovellette, to win a championship with both the Boston Celtics and the Lakers. Rondo played an integral facilitative role for the Lakers coming off the bench. Rondo’s 105 assists in the 2020 NBA playoffs were the most by a bench player in a single postseason since the 1971 playoffs. Recently, Rondo signed a 2-year deal with the Atlanta Hawks worth $15 million.
