On this day in 2016, Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder recorded 22 assists in a 114-101 win over the Phoenix Suns. Westbrook posted an impressive 26 points, 22 assists, 11 rebounds, two steals, and one block in just 34 minutes. The game marked Westbrook’s 13th triple-double of his sensational 2016-17 MVP season. He finished the season with 42 triple-doubles beating Oscar Robinson’s 55-year-old single-season record of 41 triple-doubles. During the MVP season Westbrook averaged 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, 10.4 assists, and 1.6 steals. Westbrook was recently traded to the Washington Wizards, and is entering his 13th season in the NBA. Westbrook’s accolades include 9x All-NBA Team, 2x NBA scoring champion, and 9x NBA All-Star.
