Kevin Johnson recorded 10 steals during a 1993 game between the Phoenix Suns and the Washington Wizards, making him the 13th player in NBA history to do so. Johnson was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers as the seventh pick of the 1987 NBA draft, he saw limited playing time in the 1987-88 season.
In 1988, Johnson was traded to the Phoenix Suns where he quickly proved himself as an athlete; averaging 20.4 points, 12.2 assists, a 50.5% field goal percentage, and an 88.2% free-throw percentage, as well as the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award in 1989. Johnson and Charles Barkley helped lead the Suns to the NBA Finals in 1993. Johnson also competed as a member of the U.S. national team, the Dream Team II, which one the 1994 FIBA World Championship. Johnson retired after the 1997-8 season then came out of retirement to play for the Suns in 1999-2000. Johnson served as the first African American mayor of Sacramento from 2008-16.
