WNBA team the Utah Starzz relocate to San Antonio for the 2003 season. The Starzz was one of the original eight WNBA teams, founded in 1979. The Starzz relocated to San Antonio and were renamed the San Antonio Silver Stars. During their 14-year tenure in San Antonio, they qualified for seven playoffs and made it to the WNBA Finals in 2008. The team hosted the 2011 WNBA All-Star Game but lost in the first round to the Los Angeles Sparks in 2012. The Silver Stars were then sold to MGM Resorts International in Las Vegas, where they have resided since 2018.
