Kevin Garnett signs a record 6-year, $123 million contract extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 1997. Garnett was the fifth pick in the 1995 draft and the first player to be drafted out of high school since 1975. He quickly proved to be versatile player and is one of only four NBA players to win both the MVP and Defensive Player of the Year. He led the Timberwolves to eight consecutive finals appearances and was nicknamed “the Bog Ticket.” Garnett spent 12 seasons with the Timberwolves before he was traded to the Boston Celtics then the Brooklyn Nets. Garnett finished his career with the Timberwolves and retired from professional play in 2016.
