On this day in 1994, The U.S. Men’s Basketball Team defeated Russia 137-91 to win the gold medal at the World Championship of Basketball in Toronto, Canada. Dominant in their own right, the “Dream Team II” continued to show the world that U.S. basketball was superior. Compiling an 8-0 record, with an average win margin of 37.7 points, the all-star team faced few challenges on their road to victory. Shaquille O’ Neal was named MVP of the World Championship after averaging 18.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.9 blocked shots a game in just over 17 minutes per game.  Reggie Miller and Shawn Kemp would join  Shaquille O’ Neal as the three Americans to be named on the 1994 World Championship All-Tournament Team.
