In 1988, the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Soviet Georgia All-Stars 85-84 in an exhibition game in the Soviet Union. The Hawks were the first team to play in the Soviet Union and defeat the home team. The first exhibition game took place in Tbilisi, the Georgian capital. The teams played a series of three games across the USSR. The Soviets won the final game in Moscow 132-123.
