In 2002, Gary Payton of the Seattle SuperSonics became the second player in league history to make the NBA All-Defensive First Team nine times. He is tied with Michael Jordan, who was named to the team, nine times during his Chicago Bulls career. Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett also hold the same record.
