In 1986, Rod Higgins played for four teams in a single season; setting the record for this feat. Higgins was a member of the Seattle SuperSonics, San Antonio Spurs, New Jersey Nets, and Chicago Bulls. Higgins played for a total of 7 NBA teams during his 13 seasons with the NBA. He later became the second assistant general manager of the Charlotte Hornets and later became the team’s president of basketball operations. According to the Basketball Reference, there is a four-way tie between Chucky Brown, Jim Jackson, Tony Massenburg, and Joe Smith who all played for 12 different NBA teams during their careers. Weakside.com reports that the average basketball plays for 2.51 NBA teams during their career.
