After a 43 game losing streak, the Sacramento Kings beat the Los Angeles Lakers in a 1992 road game. The Kings’ 124-114 victory was the first since they were based in Kansas City-Omaha and bested the Lakers on Oct. 20, 1974. The Kings-Lakers rivalry continued throughout the early-2000s when the Lakers bested the Kings in playoff games in 2000 to 2002 and in the 2002 Western Conference Finals. Los Angeles Laker Shaquille O’Neal memorably taunted the opposing team by calling them the Sacramento Queens. Men’s Journal names the Kings-Lakers rivalry as one of the top ten in sports and this competition shows no signs of cooling off.
