1967 saw the creation of two NBA teams – the San Diego Rockets and the Seattle SuperSonics – making this expansion draft the third in NBA history. On October 21, the SuperSonics won their first regular season game against the San Diego Rockets. The game went into overtime and ended with a 117-110 score. Despite this win, The Seattle Times reports that fans didn’t expect much of the team which was comprised of nine expansion draft players and three rookies. The Supersonics ended their first season with 23 wins and lost their star player, Walt Hazzard, after their first season. Hazzard was the team’s first-ever All-Star and scored 24 PPG with 6.2 APG before he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks. The Seattle SuperSonics were relocated to Oklahoma City, OK in 2007 and now play under the name Oklahoma City Thunder.
