The NBA announced the that the first two weeks of games would be cancelled through November 16 due to ongoing collective bargaining with the National Basketball Players Association. Prior to 1998, the NBA was the only major sports league in the United States that had never lost a game because of a work stoppage. The 1998 lockout was the third in NBA history and centered on the league’s cap system and ceiling on individual player salaries but, according to The Ringer, this lockout did not much interest fans. After 204 days, an agreement was reached which capped player salaries at $14 million. Minimum NBA salaries started at $287,500 winning minimum-salary players and additional $15,000. The searon resumed shortly after the agreement was signed but the All-Star Game was cancelled and the season was shortened to 50 games.
