In 1989, Art Shell made history as the first African American head coach of the NFL since the 1920s. During his tenure as head coach, Shell is credited with leading the Raiders to a near-perfect performance in Raiders Super Bowl Xl with a 32-14 win over the Minnesota Vikings. Prior to his five-year coaching career, Shell played for the Raiders in eight Pro Bowls. In 1994, Shell left the Raiders to become offensive line coach for the Kansas City Chiefs and later the Atlanta Falcons. He returned to coach the Raiders in their 2006-7 season; ending with a disappointing 2-14-0 record.
