On April 29, 1986, Roger Clemens of the Boston Red Sox struck out 20 batters in nine innings, becoming the first player in MLB history to do so — he would do it again 10 years later to become the only player to do it twice. Other than Clemens, Kerry Wood and Max Scherzer are the only other pitchers to record 20 strikeouts in a game. During his career, Clemens won 7 Cy Young Awards, more than any other pitcher in MLB history, and was a two-time World Series Champion.
