Today in Sports History: April 22

By Jonah Sharf

On April 22, 2000, Karl Malone of the Utah Jazz, at 36 years and 273 days old, became the oldest player in NBA history to score 50 points or more in a playoff game when he recorded 50 points in Game 1 of the first round against Seattle. Malone played in the NBA until he was over 40 years old, remaining an effective player, albeit with some injury issues in his final season. Due in part to his longevity, Malone is number two on the all-time NBA scoring list, behind only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
