On April 4, 1982, Wayne Gretzky finished the 1981-82 NHL season with 212 points, becoming the first player in NHL history to break the 200-point barrier at just 20 years old. This feat has been matched three other times in NHL history, all by Wayne Gretzky, bringing his total of 200-point seasons to four over his career. The only other player to approach 200 points was Mario Lemieux, who finished with 199 points in the 1988-89 season. Gretzky helped the Oilers win four Stanley Cup Championships over his career, and is widely credited with popularizing hockey in California when he was on the Kings.
