Today in Sports History: April 3

On April 3, 1989, Ken Griffey Jr. made his MLB debut for the Seattle Mariners and hit a double in his first major league at-bat. Griffey would go on to be one of the greatest and most beloved baseball players of all time. Griffey was a 13-time All-Star, 10-time Gold Glove Award winner, 7-time Silver Slugger Award winner, and is seventh in MLB history with 630 home runs hit. Griffey is a member of the baseball hall of fame and is often credited with popularizing baseball again in the 90s after a labor dispute in 1994 with his electrifying play and the endless joy he got from playing the game, shown by his infectious smile.
