Today in Sports History: March 16

By Jonah Sharf

On March 16, 2000, the Washington Wizards beat the Los Angeles Lakers, led by Shaq and Kobe, to end their 19-game winning streak. Despite having a much better team, the Wizards put together a strong performance, led by 32 points from Mitch Richmond and 16 assists from Rod Strickland. Shaq put together a strong performance with 40 points and 12 rebounds and Glen Rice put up 22 points, but Kobe fouled out in 33 minutes, only putting up 7 points but 7 assists in the game. As is well-documented, the Lakers would go on to win the Championship that year, the first of a three-peat.
