Today in Sports History: March 14

By Jonah Sharf

On March 14, 1962, Wilt Chamberlain completed what is considered by many to be the greatest statistical season of all time, averaging 50.4 points per game, 48.5 minutes per game, and 25.7 rebounds per game. This was the season Wilt scored 100 points in a single game and had just one game where he scored under 30 points. Chamberlain’s 4,029 regular-season points in this season made him the only player to break the 4,000-point barrier—the only other player to break the 3,000-point barrier is Michael Jordan.
