On January 28, 2017, Serena Williams beat her sister, Venus, in the Australian Open Finals to win her 23rd Grand Slam singles title, surpassing Steffi Graf’s Open Era record of 22. It also marked her seventh Australian Open title, marking another Open Era record. The match between sisters was the first time in the Open Era that two players aged 35 or older competed in the final of a Grand Slam tournament. The win ensured that she would gain back her number one ranking in the world. However, perhaps the most impressive part of all was that it was later revealed that she was eight-to-nine weeks pregnant during her win.
