Today in Sports History: December 29

By Jonah Sharf

On December 29, 1999, the late Wilt Chamberlain had his jersey number 13 retired by the Golden State Warriors, making him the first player to have a jersey retired by three different teams. At that point, Chamberlain’s jersey was retired by the Philadelphia 76ers and the Los Angeles Lakers for his contributions to their championship teams. Despite helping the 76ers and Lakers to championships, his greatest statistical seasons came with the Warriors, where he averaged 41.5 points per game and 25.1 rebounds per game over six incredible seasons.
