On December 3, 1982, Thomas Hearns beat Wilfred Benitez by majority decision to win the WBC and vacant The Ring light middleweight/super welterweight titles. This came a little over a year after losing his welterweight title to Sugar Ray Leonard, and he defended his titles for two years until he moved up to middleweight to fight for the title but lost to Marvin Hagler. Hearns is considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, winning titles in five different divisions throughout his career. He is perhaps best known for his fights against Leonard and Hagler.
